Uji Hikari single origin matcha

A finely ground green tea powder traditionally used in Japanese tea ceremonies. “Hikari” means “light” in Japanese, and it refers to the vibrant green color and brightness of the tea powder, which is indicative of high-quality tea leaf variety.

What makes Hikari special is its authentic makeup of 100% Japanese matcha from a single source, in comparison to most matcha products which are often blends from multiple farms or mixed with green tea.

This cultivar is prized for its flavor profile, aroma, and appearance. The leaves used to produce matcha Hikari are shade-grown before harvest, which enhances the production of chlorophyll and other beneficial compounds and reduces the production of tannins in the tea leaves.

After harvesting, the leaves are carefully steamed, dried, and then ground into a fine powder.

When preparing matcha Hikari, it is traditionally whisked with hot water using a bamboo whisk called a “chasen” to create a frothy, vibrant green tea.
