Chinese GABA Wulong is a unique partially oxidized oolong produced using a process first developed in Japan in 1987 and later refined by Chinese tea masters. During production, freshly picked tea leaves are placed in a nitrogen-rich, oxygen-free environment for 8–10 hours. This specialized fermentation method encourages the natural accumulation of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) — a beneficial neurotransmitter known for its calming and focusing effects.

The tea is typically crafted from the Qingxin (Chin-hsin) Oolong cultivar grown in the clean highlands of China, though other tea regions in China also produce fine GABA teas in both oolong and red (black) styles.

Appearance & Taste

When brewed, GABA Wulong yields a light golden-brown to amber-red infusion with a floral-honey aroma and a smooth, gently fruity or wine-like flavor. A hint of acidity reminiscent of white wine may appear — a mark of authentic processing. Excessive acidity, however, can indicate over-oxidation.

The liquor is balanced, clean, and soft on the palate, leaving a pleasant lingering sweetness.

Health Benefits

GABA Oolong is appreciated not only for its taste but also for its wellness benefits. It is often enjoyed to promote calm focus — a favorite choice for scholars and business professionals alike.

Key effects:

  • Stimulates brain activity and supports concentration, memory, and alertness.
  • Acts as a natural tranquilizer, calming the nervous system.
  • Supports cardiovascular health and helps lower blood pressure.
  • Aids metabolism and protects nerve cells from degeneration.
  • Promotes liver function and helps the body recover from alcohol intake.
  • Enhances oxygen flow and energy metabolism in brain tissues.

Note: Those with low blood pressure, diabetes, or kidney disorders should consume GABA tea in moderation.

Brewing Guide

For green-style GABA Oolong:

  • Water temperature: 85–90 °C
  • Rinse the leaves briefly, then brew for 7–10 seconds per infusion.
  • Gradually increase steeping time with each round.
  • Can be infused 8–12 times.

Scientific Insight

Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a natural inhibitory neurotransmitter found in the human nervous system. It regulates nerve activity, reduces stress, and promotes relaxation while improving mental clarity. Unlike synthetic supplements, GABA derived from tea is a natural, bioavailable source, combined with beneficial amino acids such as alanine — a synergy that supports overall vitality and calm energy.
