Description
Taiwan GABA Wulong is a unique partially oxidized oolong produced using a process first developed in Japan in 1987 and later refined by Taiwanese tea masters. During production, freshly picked tea leaves are placed in a nitrogen-rich, oxygen-free environment for 8–10 hours. This specialized fermentation method encourages the natural accumulation of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) — a beneficial neurotransmitter known for its calming and focusing effects.
The tea is typically crafted from the Qingxin (Chin-hsin) Oolong cultivar grown in the pristine highlands of Alishan, though other regions of Taiwan also produce fine GABA teas in both oolong and red (black) styles.
Appearance & Taste
When brewed, GABA Wulong yields a light golden-brown to amber-red infusion with a floral-honey aroma and a smooth, gently fruity or wine-like flavor. A hint of acidity reminiscent of white wine may appear — a mark of authentic processing. Excessive acidity, however, can indicate over-oxidation.
The liquor is balanced, clean, and soft on the palate, leaving a pleasant lingering sweetness.

Scientific Insight
Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a natural inhibitory neurotransmitter found in the human nervous system. It regulates nerve activity, reduces stress, and promotes relaxation while improving mental clarity. Unlike synthetic supplements, GABA derived from tea is a natural, bioavailable source combined with beneficial amino acids such as alanine — a synergy that supports overall vitality and calm energy.
