When you do decoctions and infusions of the berries, leaves and flowers, it is strictly not advisable to use old herbs which were kept for several years. Even when the correct storage conditions are observed there is little left of the valuable substances that are good for the treatment or prevention of diseases.
Even worse – they may change the composition converting into harmful substances.
Avoid using copper, aluminum and tin vessels; better stick with ceramic, porcelain, glass, or stainless steel.
For proper decocting pour boiling water onto the herb and leave it to steep for 2-3 hours. There is no point to steep it longer as it will not extract more than it is being extracted during first 2-3 hours.
Don’t drink tisane when too hot; drink when it is warm as it works more effectively on your body.
