Description
Perhaps the most exotic Japanese tea. It is mixed with toasted brown rice. This tea has several names: “rice tea”, “folk tea” or “brown rice tea”. It is also sometimes called popcorn tea – rice pops during frying, that resembles popcorn. This exotic tea is based on green tea of ”bancha” or “sencha” variety and fried brown unpeeled rice. Once this tea was considered a drink for poor Japanese people. Japanese peasants could not afford to drink pure tea, so they “diluted” the tea leaves with rice. It’s cheaper and more satisfying this way. Hence the other name – “folk tea”. Now “folk tea” is popular both among the common population and among gourmets, and even outside Japan.

One of my favorites. Smooth taste, superb addition after a hearty meal. The quality is excellent, as expected.
