This Chinese tea gained popularity in Western Europe by the end of the 18th century. The Chinese themselves called it “Pearl”, but the British and Dutch gave it the name “Pinhead Gunpowder” because the gray-green granules resemble gunpowder also invented by the Chinese.

Depending on the plucking season and flush size several grades are known. Finest tea is considered to be Pinhead Gunpowder, tea with a larger flush would be Cannon Gunpowder or just Gunpowder.

Tea is great on a hot day. It is best to drink it in its pure form, with no milk or sugar added.

Ingredients
Tea leaf.
Tasting Notes
When properly brewed, the tea gives a light tonic drink of almost amber color. The taste of the tea is somewhat tart with bitterness, very characteristic of Chinese green teas.
