Original name in Chinese is Bai Hao Yin Zhen, literally translated as “Silver Needles with White Down” – a form of long needles, covered with light white fluff, which gives the dry tea leaves a characteristic ashy color. Tea consists only of buds – the small, unopened leaves of the tea plant, the sweetest part of the tea leaf, that store all of the nutrients over the winter, so in the spring, the nutrients are pushed out in the first tea tips.
